concerning the safety aspects of three nuclear power plants propcsed near Seneca, South Carolina.

Duke Pcwer Company has applied to the Commission for permits to build three nuclear power plants to be known as the Coonee Nuclear Station and to be located about 8 miles north-east of Seneca.

Each unit would have a pressurized water re-acter capable of an initial output of about 839,000 electrical kilcwatts and an ultimate capacity of 874,000 kilowatts.

All three units would ce designed and constructed by Duke Power Company persennel.

Babcock and Wilcox Company would provide the nuclear steam supply system.

The Commission has scheduled a public hearing August 29 at Walhalla, South Carolina, to consider the application.

It will begin at 10 a.m.

and will be conducted by an Atomic Safety and Licensing Scard.

In its evaluation, the AEC Regulatory Staff has concluded that the proposed nuclear power plants meet the Commission's s afety requirements and the Staff recommends issuance of the permits.
