Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

Uith regard to your letter of June 12, 1978 which transmitted IE Bulletin 78-08 a review of the design of Oconee Nuclear Station has been conducted.

Surveys have been previously performed around the fuel transfer tube areas in the Unit 1 Penetration Rooms which have indicated that there is no problem with the shielding design of the transfer tubes. Additional areas within the Unit 1 R2 actor Building will be investigated during the forthcoming refueling outage.

In es muen as the design of Unit 1 is representative of all three Oconee units, thsre does not appear to be any excessive radiation levels present at the fuel elemtnt transfer tubes at Oconee.

Va truly yours, /
