U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D. C.

[,7 RE:
Oconee Nuclear Station i
m Docket Nos. 50-269, -270, -287
Dear Mr. Case:
As allowed by 10CFR20 520.207, certain licensed material has been stored in a secured warehouse, designated as Warehouse No. 4, in the unrestricted area at Oconee Nuclear Station.
The warehouse is located approximately 172 feet West of the interim waste building as shown on the attached map.
This area is bounded on one edge by a parking lot approximately 95 feet from the warehouse.
The warehouse interior, which will be considered as a restricted area, is used as a storage area for radioactively contaminated tool and equipment items.
It is occupied by station personnel equipped with dosimetry only when storing material or removing stored material.
Occupancy times by unmonitored personnel in the area surrounding the warehouse is negligible.
Based on the need for this storage, it is requested, pursuant to the provisions of 10CFR50 550.90, and 10CFR20 520.105(a), that an amendment to the Oconee Facility Operating Licenses DPR-38, -47, and -55 be approved permitting the area surrounding Warehouse No. 4 to be utilized such that based on occupancy time it is unlikely that any unmonitored individual would receive a dose in excess of the dose limits specified in 10CFR20 520.105 a and b(1) and (2).
In addition, a dose rate of 2 mrem /hr will not be exceeded on the exterior side of the warehouse walls.
Ver truly yours, /
