REQUEST FOR INFORMATION ON CRACKING OF BOILING WATER REACTOR (BWR) JET PUMP HOLDDOWN BEAMS You recently received Inspection and Enforcement Bulletin 80-07, dated April 4,1980, concerning the cracking of the jet pump holddown beams at Dresden 3. Operating BWR's were requested to provide a written response to this bulletin. BWR's not yet operating were issued this bulletin for information only. Our Office of Inspection and Enforcement is currently monitoring the efforts of General Electric and various BWR Licensees for developing a long-term solution to the cracking problem. Operating BWR's are being required to take certain short-term actions such as inservice inspection t*1 creclude excessive cracking while a long-term solution is developed. It. is expected that this long-term s..!ution will be applicable to both operating and non-operating BWR's. To aid us in our licensing reviews of LaSalle, you ard requested to provide the enclosed information to us. We consider this item as an open issue for LaSalle. We want you to document your actions being taken with respect to this problem and demonstrate that a level of safety sufficient for licensing has been achieved.
