SERIAL NO: NO-80-846 Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation ATTENTION:
Mr. T. A. Ippolito, Chief Operating Reactors Branch No. 3 United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D. C. 20555 BRUNSWICK STEAM ELECTRIC PLANT, UNIT NO. 1 DOCKET NO. 50-325 LICENSE NO. DPR-71 FUEL CYCLE NO. 3 - SCHEDULE INFORMATION
Dear Mr. Ippolito:
Carolina Power & Light Company (CP&L) submitted the technical information for the upcoming Brunswick Unit No. 1 refueling outage to NRC on May 23, 1980. This letter stated that the outage would begin on May 26 and end on August 9, 1980.
Subsequent to our May 23, 1980 submittal, several conference calls have been held between our staffs concerning CP&L's proposal to split the Brunswick Unit No. 1 outages into a Spring, 1980 refueling outage and a maintenance / modification outage beginning in mid-September, 1980. These discussions have been beneficial and led to our May 30, 1980 submittal which documented CP&L's current plan to split the outages.
Since that time, we have determined that the criticality date for Brunswick Unit No. 1 following its Spring, 1080-refueling outage is June 25, 1980. Therefore, we request that the staff review of the outage-related technical issues be expedited as much as possible so that the appropriate license amendments can be issued prior to scheduled criticality on June 25, 1980.
j Your a.asistance will be greatly appreciated. Please call us if you have any questions.
