Mr. F. L. Clayton's Letters, Subject as Above Dated:
November 10, 1979, November 14, 1979 and April 1, 1980 Gentlemen:
Your letter dated March 10, 1980, addressed your objective of the NRC Staff evaluating Auxiliary Feedwater (AFW) syc:em designs on a plant specific basis. To accommodate this objective, the Staff initiated their efforts by directing them towards operating reactors including Farley Unit No. 1.
However, as recognized in your March 10, 1980 letter, information already provided on operating plants may be directly applicable to plants under review for an operating license, provided their respective AFW systems are essentially identical.
We wish to confirm to you that the AFW systems for both Farley Units 1 and 2 are essentially identical. Therefore, it is our intent to resolve this matter on Unit 2 by following the resolution on Unit 1.
This approach was discussed in a telephone conference call with representatives from your staff on April 17, 1980 and was agreed to be acceptable.
Yours truly,
