Mr. Thomas A. Ippolito, Chief Branch No. 3 Division of Operating Reactors
-U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555
Dear Mr. Ippolito:
In the Matter of the
)
Docket Nos. 50-259 Tennessee Valley Authority
)
50-260 50-296 This letter provides TVA's response to the following (enclosed) requests for information.
1.
February 12, 1980, letter from S. Fabic, Division of Reactor Safety Research, regarding information needed to compare RETRAN code results with simulator results.
2.
March 17, 1980, letter from J. A.
Dearien,
Code Assessment and Applications Program, EG&G, regarding information needed to construct calculational models for LOCA and other operational transients.
Following a March 24, 1980, telephone conversation (regarding request No. 1 above) with Dr. R. Hall of the Brookhaven National Laboratory. (BNL), he sent us a questionnaire illustrating the depth of the intended.BNL review.
After reviewing the questionnaire, we believe that Dr. Hall's questions could more appropriately be addressed by someone who is more intimately familiar with the detailed modeling equations used in training simulators.
The equations used for the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant simulation were developed by the Singer Company and, therefore, we believe that they could more adequately answer Dr. Hall's questions in the detail which he requested.
In respcase to J. A.
Dearien's letter dated March 17,
1980, we find it inappropriate for the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to provide the information that is requested'due to our proprietary agreements with the-General Electric Company (GE).
In a telephone conversation with Barry Smith of GE on April 2,1980, we were advised that GE woull prefer to release the information. Therefore, please get in touch with Mr. Smith (408/925-1268) and advise him what information is needed and why it is needed.
Mr. Smith's address is: M/C 881, 175 Curtner' Avenue, San Jose, California 95125. You may inform GE that TVA is aware of this request and will provide any available data on the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant to aid them in completing the information requirements.
