Dear Sir:

(1) NRC License SNM-1097, rocket #70-1113 (2) Letter, J. G. Partlow Irom A.

L. Kaplan, 8/2/79

Subject:

APPLICATION AMENDMENT S-18, RETENTION OF SCRAP MATERIAL With reference to activities authorized under SNM-1097, General Electric Company hereby requests authorization to retain certain scrap materials in excess of the one year period prescribed by 10 CFR 70. 58 (i) (2), through May 9, 1980.

General Electric currently procures scrap recovery services from an offsite vendor.

We have recently encountered difficulties beyond our control in obtaining scrap recovery services from this vendor in a timely manner.

Since GE does not have onsite capability for such scrap recovery, we have been unable to get this material processed for uranium recovery.

We are currently scheduled to begin shipping the material to this vendor on April 14, 1980, and we expect to complete the shipment by May 9, 1980.

Therefore, we are requesting authorization to retain certain quantities of these scrap materials in excess of the one year period prescribed for such materials by 10 CFR 70.58 (i) (2) through May 9, 1980.

The attachment to this letter contains details as to material quantities and anniversary dates for these containers through l

May 9, 1980.
