One Month Extension of Request for Information Re: Bypass and Reset of ESF
Dear Sir:
Your letter, Reference (b), requested that within~ thirty days of receipt, we (1) identify and justify all exceptions to criteria provided in said letter; and (2) provide a substantial amount of specific descriptive information regarding the Engineered Safety Feat ~res (ESF) at Maine Yankee.
Previously, we received a letter, Reference (c), from the Office of Inspection and Enforcement, Region I, requesting a review of drawings and prints for all systemt serving safety related functions to determine if any equipment inappro'riately actuates upon operation of the ESF reset pushbutton, in p
addition to verifying as-built schematics through means of demonstration testing.
Currently, the instrumentation and control systems of Maine Yankee are '
subject to multiple re-evaluation and upgradings as a result of the Three Mile Island accident and related issues.
Included in these reviews are:
IE Bulletin 79-018 IE Bulletin 79-27 IE Bulletin 80-06 NUREG-0578 Category B Requirements I

-March 28, 1980 Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Page 2 Each of these activ'ities has placed extensive demands upon the personnel resources of the Yankee Nuclear Services Division.
In view of the substantial information requested in Reference (b), the apparent duplication of requirements between References (b) and (c) and schedular inconsistencies, it is questionable that sufficient resources are available to provide the information requested in Reference (b) in the time allowed. Therefore, we plan to submit the information requested in your letter, Reference (b), not later than May 19, 1980.
We trust this schedule is acceptable; however, should you have any questions, please contact us.
Very truly yours, MAINE YANKEE ATOMIC POWER COMPANY f
