This is in regard to your letter dated November 12, 1979, concerning registration for the Model No. N-55 packaging.
It will be necessary for you to have an approved quality assurance (QA) program as required by 10 CFR 571.12 prior to your registration as a user of a package.
Your reference to an approved QA p.oo am is not acceptable. Your QA program should include as a minimum, how procu,rement, maintenance, repair, and use of design, fabrication, assembly, testing, and modification)g activities, (i.e.,
packages by Union Carbide will be met. All other shippin may be satisfied by obtaining certifications f' rom package suppliers that these activities were conducted in accordance with an NRC-approved QA program.
However, it is the responsibility of the licensee-user that all transportation activities meet the requirements of 10 CFR 671.51.
