28 February 1980
- Chairman, U.
S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission 1717 H Street NW Washington, D.
C.
20555 I am a homeowner in the Northern Virginia /Fairfax County area with electricity supplied by an all-electric house (with heat pump) the Virginia Electric and Power Company (VEPCO).
Attached at TAB A is' an analysis of VEPCO charges for my home from January 1976 to the present.
The bottom line is that from February 1979 to January 1980, VEPCO has increased its rates by +52.1% per kilowatt hour.
You will note in the analysis that I have been conserving energy; my kilowatt hour usage has dropped by -16.3% from a high of 6,800 in January 1977 to a low of 5,690 in January 1980.
Despite conservation measures --
setting my thermostat between 62 to 66 degrees -- my VEPCO bill has gone from less than S200 per month to nearly S300 per month in one year.
Then, when I hear / read that the Potomac Electric and Power Company (PEPCO) has requested a rate reduction and other utility company rates in North Carolina are lower than VEPCO's, I can only conclude --
- SOMETHING IS WRONG AT VEPCO ******
Therefore, the undersigned at TAB B and I request an immediate.
intensive, and thorough investigation of the entire VEPCO operation.
That the investigation committee be comprised of objective, knowl-edgeable participants -- to include consumer representation.
- Further, that if unjust and unreasonable rates have been charged by VEPCO, VEPCO be ordered to immediately rebate over-charges to its consumers.
Thank you.
g t
Sincerely, DOCKETED f
