Dear Mr. Denton:
Please find attached a document entitled, " Duke Power Company, McGuire Nuclear Station, Information in Support of Standby Shutdown Facility," which provides the design description of the Standby Shutdown Facility (SSF) at McGuire Nuclear Station.
Note that by a letter dated May 1, 1978 Duke Power Company provided a conceptual description of the proposed SSF.
This concept was reviewed and approved by the NRC Staff in Supplement No. 2 to the Safety Evaluation Report for McGuire Nuclear. Station dated March, 1979.
Based on the conceptual approval received in March, 1979, installation of the SSF for McGuire Unit 1 is proceeding. Therefore, it is requested that the NRC provide final approval for the design of the SSF by June 1, 1980.
As previously stated, the SSF will be completed no later than three months after the first refueling of McGuire Unit 1 or twenty-four months after initial j
fuel loading, whichever occurs first.
The attached is applicable to security provisions at McGuire; therefore, it is requested this information be withheld from public disclosure pursuant to 10CFR 2.790.
Very truly yours, c,
(
