of diesel generators, we find that in sone cases the infomation available i

to the control roor.1 operator to indicate the operational status of the M21 diesel generator may be Inprecise and could lead to nisinterpretation.

g.g. E This can be caused by the sharing of a sing;e annunciator station by-alams that indicate conditions that render a diesel generator unable to responc to an automatic emergency start signal and alams that only indicate a warning of abnormal, but not disabling, conditions. linother cause can be the use of wording on an annunicator window that does not specifically say that a diesel generator is inoperable (i.e., unable at the time to respond to an autonatic energency start signal) when in fact it is inoperable for that purpose.

We, therefore, request that you review the alam circuitry and diesel generator control circuitry for the diesel generators at your facility.

to determine how each condition that renders a diesel generator unable to respond to an autoaatic coergency start signal is alamed in the E:

control rom:.

These conditions include not only the trips that lock out the diesel cenerator start and require nanual reset, but also control switch or node switch positior.s that block autons. tic start, loss of control voltage, insufficient startine air pressure cr battery voltage, etc. This review shoulc consider all aspects of possible diesel cenerator nnerational conditions, for exanale test conditions and operation from local ' control stations. One area of narticular ccncern is the unreset condition following a nanual stop at the local = station uSich terminates a diesel generator test
