AEC Docket No. 50-312
',1 b '.;
9 Rancho Seco Nuclear Generating i-Station, Unit No.1
Dear Mr. Giambusso:
In accordance with the request of your staff, we are hereby i
forwarding additional information regarding the details of the design of the expansion joints recently incorporated into our spray pond piping system.
The joints are of the universal type containing two bellows connected by a center pipe and equipped with tie rods. The design pressure, temperature, and deflections have been conservatively selected and exceed the maximum values imposed during simultaneous service condi-tions and operation through the Design Base Earthquake.
The design of the spray pond piping system including the expansion joints complies with ANSI B31.1 with additional Quality Assurance requirements as mentioned in our earlier submittal on this matter.
In addition, the design of the joints complies with the following paragraphs of Section III of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code: NC 3624.2; l
NC3649.2(a),(b),(c),and(j).
The joints were manufactured by a company which is a current "N" stamp holder; however, the system piping design specification does not require stamping of the piping in this system and they are therefore not stamped.
Sincerely yours,
.. Y s
