Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
In response to your letter of November 30, 1979, which transmitted IE Bulletin 79-27, a review of the Class IE and non-Class IE instrumentation and control systems was conducted for McGuire Nuclear Station.
Both the McGuire instrument systems and the McGuire procedures were reviewed as required by this bulletin.
Our response to each bulletin item is attached.
Very truly yours, hhhw h us A.

I McGuire Nuclear Station Response to IE Bulletin 79-27 la) Each Class IE and Non-Class 1E instrumentation and control power bus at McGuire has a computer point alarm to alert the operator to bus undervoltage conditions. Also, system annunciator alarms are provided to alert the operator upon loss of a bus in the associated instrumentation and control system. Voltmeters are provided in the control room for each DC instrumentation and control bus.
b) The McGuire instrumentation and control loads have been reviewed and it has been determined that loss of power to any one instrumentation and control bus will not inhibit the ability to reach cold shutdown.
c) No design modifications are required resulting from these reviews and evaluations.
2a) Existing procedures at McGuire Nuclear Station discuss the meaning and significance of the alarms and indicators in the control room, b)
Four redundant channels of indication are available for most control and protection system parameters, e.g., pressurizer pressure, S/G level, control room indicat0EE).
RCS flow, loop AT, T Other parameters have a minimum of two Table 7.5.1-1 of the McGuire FSAR details the number and location of the various indicators. A single power supply _ failure could eliminate only one of the RPS display channels.
Therefore a loss of any one bus will not result in a loss of control indication in the McGuire control room.
c) Methods for restoring power to the affected buses are included in existing procedures at McGuire Nuclear Station.
3.
A rereview of IE Circular No. 79-02 including Class 1E safety-related power supply inverters was performed for McGuire Nuclear Station.
The McGuire design has no Non-Class IE safety-related power supply inverters.
No changes are required in the auxilibry control inverter system as a result of this review.
