.Re: NRC Inspection 73-04 Docket No. 50-312 License No. DPR-54
Dear Mr. Engelken:
With reference to the corrective actions stated in our letter to you on June. 7,1978, concerning the audit conducted by Mr. R. Thomas on April 24 through 28,1978, we would like to offer this additional information.
1)
Infraction A.
A training session has been provided to Chemical / Radiation personnel in which instructions were given that all members of the group are to be on the lookout for radiation barrier tapes or signs that have been displaced or have fallen due to winds or deterioration of supporting devices.
In particular, those individuals performing daily surveys of work areas were requested to note any signs or barriers that were, or appeared to be, potential problems.
2)
Infraction A.
Since 10 CFR 20.203b is not definitive as to the proximity requirements for posting, we have applied Radiation Arca Caution postings to all stairwells leading to the -20' elevation of the Auxiliary Building.
In this manner, any locali=ed radiation area having defective delineation as a radiation area is covered by the larger area posting; since some of the radiation areas may change rapidly with time, the added postings provide a more conservative approach toward timely posting of.new local areas.
3)
Infraction B.
In addition to the commitment for single signs for denoting a Secured Radiation Area /High Radiation Area classification and a commitment to modify the Radiation Control Manual to conform with Technical Specifications and 10 CFR 20, we have l
I conducted a training session for Chemical Radiation personnel in which instructions were given in proper posting of Secured Radiation j
Area, High Radiatien Area and Radiation Areas.
Further training (j
and instruction will be provided in the same subject upon completion l
of the changes to the Radiation Control Manual.
