Gentlemen:

This refers to the inspection conducted by Messrs. R. T. Dodds and

L. J. Garvin of this office on March 15, 15, 19 and 20, 1973, of construction

activitics authorized by AEC construction ?crmit No. CPPR-56 and to the

discussion of our findings held by Mr. Dodds with Mr. J. J. Mattimoo,

V. P. McMahon and other members of your scaff at the conclusion of the

inspection.

Arcas examined during this inspection included (1) pipe hangers and supports,

(2) reactor vessel internals, (3) ovaluacion of secam generator weld filler

metal records, (4) component and sys tem cicaning, (5) replacement of limit

switches in Models SMB-00 and SMB-000 Liaitorque valve motor operators,

(6) calibration of construction test equipment, and (7) several industry-

related potential generic prob 1 cms. Uithia these areas, the inspection

consisted of selective examination of pwedurcs and representative records,

interviews with project personnel and cin.. vations by the inspectors.

In addition, the 'inspectora verified the rctions you have taken with

respect to the items identified in our .. w er of February 6, 1973 and

your response dated Mard 5,1973. We ir.w no further questions concerning

those items.

This inspection also included an e:ccminat ima of your quality assurance

program related to the painting of the liner and equipment inside the

containment vesuci, as referenced in our lector of March 15, 1973.

Additionally, we noted that your paintin operations performed prior

to September 1972 were being re-examine.

We have no further questions concerning sece matters.

No viointions of AEC requirements were 3.xntified within the areas c: amined

during this inspection.

Obt.>in the results of qualification tests and free chloride analysis

for solvents used to clean Class I components for piping systems.

Updace the procedures for pipe hangers and supports to document

current practices and the dispositioning of inspection records.

The r.wiiographic report forms for p :i:::ary system pipe welds will be

revised to include sketches and su nicient information in order to

make the forms self-explanatory by April 1973.

We will examine your actions on these items at the time of our next

inspection.

Attached to this letter is our inspection report.

In accordance with

Section 2.790 of the AEC's " Rules of Practice", Part 2, Title 10, Code

of Federal Regulations, a copy of this Iceter and the enclosed inspection

report will be placed in the AEC's Public Document Room.

If this report

contains any information that you believe to be ' proprietary, it is

necessary that you submit a written application to this office, within 20

days of the date of this letter, requesting that such information be withheld

from public disclosure. The application must include a full statement of

the reasons why it is claimed that the information is proprietary. The

application should be prepared so that any proprietary information identified

is contained in an enclosure to the application, since the application without

the enclosure will also be placed in the 2ublic Document Room.

placed in the Public Document Room.
