Gentlemen:
Recent changes in the NRC/TMI site staff shift coverage require revision to previous instructions provided to you for NRC notification of radwaste evolutions.

Accordingly, this letter provides guidelines for assuring notification to NRC/TMI Technical Support Staff of radiological water and gas move-ments/ processes at Three Mile Island Units 1 and 2.
The NRC/TMI staff must be informed of all scheduled, as well as unscheduled, radiological water and gas movements / processes.
For all scheduled radwaste evolutions, (e.g., neither accidental nor i
i inadvertent), prior notification shall be completed by performing any of the following actions, j
(1) Listing of such evolution in the Radwaste Daily Report and providing a copy of the report to the NRC/TMI staff.
(2) Verbally informing the NRC shift radiation specialist, when assigned.
(This position is currently assigned during the period 7:00 A.M. until 11:00 P.M. daily.)
.1 (3) Verbally informing myself or, in my absence, a member of the NRC/THI site staff.

Please note that it is not necessary.to notify the NRC/TMI staff of nonradiological water and gas movements / processes, including sewage shipments having negative radiological sampling results and nonradio-

logical discharges of the IWTS and IWFS.

February 20, 1980 For all unscheduled radiological water and gas movements, including either accidental or inadvertent releases, verbally notify me or, in my absence, another member of the NRC/THI site staff.
Such notification should be made as soon as possible, and is in addition to other noti-fication and reporting requirements listed in NRC rules and regulations, your facility licenses, license conditions or technical specifications.
Specific mechanisms for facilitating the notifications stated herein, e.g., office, residence,pager and beeper telephone numbers have been f
provided separately. Should you require additional guidelines concerning this matter, please contact this office.
