Docket No. 50-302 CCCKET CLE.M fs v

Dear Mr. DeYoung:

b a

co This letter is to respon o your letter to Florida Power Corporation, dated April 10, 1972, requesting additional information pertaining to environmental factors associated with the Crystal River Unit 3 Nuclear Generating Plant.

The specific information requirements were listed in an enclosure to your letter entitled Request for Additional Information, Environmental Impact Review. Your i

letter also requested Florida Power Corporation's response by May 1, 1972.

Upon receipt of your letter of April 10, 1972, Florida Power Corporation pro-cceded immediately with assessment, planning, scheduling, and performance of work to be accomplished to respond to the specific information requirements contained therein. Unfortunately, several of the requirements dictated that considerable engineering and cost analyses be performed in order to responsibly meet the requirements.

Therefore, Florida Power Corporation feels that, in order to provide quality responses, additional time is required. We feel that quality responses to the Request for Additional Information can be formulated and transmitted to you on or about May 8,1972.

The reply will take the form of an amendment to our Application for Licenses, Amendment #19, and will contain the material as a supplement to our Environmental Report, Supplement #1, Crystal River Unit 3 Applicant's Environmental Report Operating License Stage.

There is one item in the Request for Additional Information which we feel should deviate from the normal 300 copy response format.

Item 2 reads " Provide copies of Florida Power Corporation's Quarterly Environmental Status Reports".

We realize the m ecessity for having documents such as these readily available to the public and ende. e this philosophy.

In fact, this consideration was the stimulus which led to a very large, approximately 300-400 persons and agencies, distribution list for these status reports.

The reports go to a wide spectrum of state and federal agencies as well as other interested persons.

Copies of these reports were also made available at the site visit, referenced in your letter of April 10, to the attending A.E.C. and Battelle Memorial Institute--Pacific Northwest Laboratory representatives. Therefore, we intend to respond to Item 2 by publishing in the Supplement #1 a current mailf ng list for the Quarterly 2358

Mr. R.C. DeYoung April 26, -19 72.

Page Two Environmental Status Reports so that the informed public can be made aware of the multitude of places at which they can achieve access to these documents.

We would be receptive to recommendations from the A.E.C. as to the extension of our distribution list to include some places, such as public libraries, which the A.E.C.

feels advisable.

We could furnish upon request, approximately 25 to 30 complete sets of the reports from our available supply.

Any more than this would require considerable expense and time delay due to the necessity for back-printing, which we feel is not justifiable.

- If further discussion or clarification of the above is needed, please contact us.

Very truly yours,
