Dear Mr. Davis:
In' reference to your letter of June 30, 1972 regarding verification of
[~T the wall thickness of valves within the reactor coolant pressure boundary as referenced in your letter, we wish to advise you that a program has been in effect at Crystal River and at our vendor's for some time to verify the adequacy of the wall thicknesses of nuclear related valves.
However, our program did not encompass all valves within the size range as stated in your letter. We have instituted an addition to that pro-gram that will identify the additional valves to be inspected. It is proposed that this identification will be completed by the 15th of August, 1972.. We will develop and qualify a procedure for wall thickness in-spe.ction utilizing mechanical and ultrasonic procedures.
It is expected that these procedures will be qualified ~at approximately the same time.
The records for inspections already completed are available for your audit at the plant site. As soon as the magnitude of the additional in-spections is determined, we will estimate the completion of this project and provide your inspectors with that information.
