VE:TDORINSPECTIONREPORT(B&W69/9)-BABCOCK &WILCOX,BARBERTON, OHIO The enclosed report of an inspection of the Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W) in Barberton, Ohio on December 16-18, 1969, is forwarded for infomation. The inspection was made to review fabrication of steam generators for the Duke Power Company (Oconee plants) and the Florida Power Corporation (Crystal River plant).
On the basis of our obse'rvations and record examinations, we believe the steam generator units being manufactured by B&W vill be satis-factory for service. However, during the inspection our inspector identified four items of nonconfomance with the applicable ASE Codes which require corrective action. These items relate to the qualification of velders to Navy rather than ASE requirements and irregularities in the qualification and use of velding procedures.

We plan to co=municate with the respective licenseestconcerning the

correction of these deficiencies and v*.11 follow up on them as nec-essary. We also plan to continue perioaic inspections of the Barberton facility.
