JAN 171980 MEMORANDUM FOR: Darrell G. Eisenhut, Acting Director Division of Operating Reactors FROM:

G. Lainas, Chief Plant Systems Branch Division of Operating Reactors

SUBJECT:

SCHEDULE CONCERNS FOR COMPLETION OF PWR OVERPRESSURE PROTECTION REVIEWS The following is a list of the remaining PWR operating reactors without D0R approved overpressure protection systems:

Trojan Beaver Valley San Onofre St. Lucie Arkansas Unit 1 Oconee Units 1, 2, and 3 Rancho Seco To date, the Plant Systems Branch and our consultants, LLL and EG&G, have reviewed the EI&C aspects of the low temperature overpressure protection systems for the operating reactors listed above. The completion of our reviews however, is dependent upon the Reactor Safety Branch review-ing and approving the overall syst=ms aspects of the licensee proposed designs.

The RSB principal reviewers, T. Marsh, G. Lanik and J. Rosenthal, have been detailed to higher priority tasks and are not expected to be available to work on the remaining overpressure reviews in the near future.

As a result of this schedule impact, the manpower presently assigned to these efforts at LLL and EG&G Idaho will be redirected to work on other licensing actions.
