Dear Dr. Kerr:
On behalf of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, I wish to express appreciation for the Committee's thorough report on the matter of cracks found in Boiling Water Reactor piping furnished with your letter of February 8,1975. The Committee's most helpful report will be carefully studied and considered by the Commission and the staff.
To assist it in its study of the report, the Commission would appre-ciate a clarification by the Committee of the remarks in section one of the report concerning the rate of propagation of the cracks observed.
It would be helpfulif the Committee could provide the Commission, at an early date, with its views on the likely magnitude of the rates of crack formation and propagation in BWR piping.
