Dear Mr. Arnold:
Since the March 28 accident, we have required that your staff notify NRC officials on site of all water movements in TMI-l or TMI-2 or between these two units including all waters collected in sumps that are even-tually pumped to the IWFS or IWTS.
The notification was redundant in that staff members of both IE & NRR were being contacted for approval prior to making such transfers.
As you know, in recent months, we have under gone realignment of personnel at our on site of fice and no longer have two separate divisions functioning at TMI.
Although our on site staff includes personnel from IE & NRR, we have consolidated into one group functioning as the NRC on site staff with responsibility for both TMI-1 and TMI-2.
In view of this, it will no longer be necessary for your staff to make redundant notifications.
In the future, your staff should contact our shift operations inspector or shift radiation specialist at 782-3957/
782-3959 of water movements in either TMI-l or TMI-2 or between these two units.
In this regard, I have attached for your information a copy of our organizational chart, which shows the breakdoun of our on site staff. We have and will continue to furnish to your staff on a weekly basis a listing of NRC staff personnel on duty at TMI and how tl.ey may be contacted.
