REVIEW SCHEDULE FOR RESAR SP/90 i

By letter dated June 19, 1987, we informed you that the staff was working to a review schedule that would have resulted in the issuance of a draft Safety Evaluation Report (SER) in April 1988, and a final SER and PDA decision by the end of 1988. This schedule was predicated upon meeting

certain intermediate milestones involving issuance and response to requests for additional information (RAIs).

As you are aware, these intermediate milestones have not always been met due to delays in both the issuance and response to RAIs in certain technical areas. As a result of the delays, the staff has reassessed the appropriateness of the June 19, 1987 review schedule, and has determined it necessary to adjust the remaining intermediate milestones.

Enclosed is a revised review schedule based upon discussions with both the staff and Westinghouse. This schedule is consistent with the staff's

" Revised Program Plan For Standard Plant Reviews," dated January 25, 1988.

Note the staff still plans to issue the final SER in October 19G8, and issue the PDA decision by Decevier 1988.
