May 5, 1980 Docket No. 50-289 Mr. R. C. Arnold Senior Vice President Metropolitan Edison Conpany 100 Interpace Parkway Parsippany, New Jersey 07054

Dear Mr. Arnold:

RE: LOSS OF 0FFSITE POWER EVENTS We are currently reviewing the adequacy of the offsite power systems of nuclear power plants and in particular, the loss of offsite power events at your facility. One aspect of this review concerns the history of experienced total and partial power outages and attendent degraded voltage or frequency conditions of the grid.

In our review of this matter we have drawn upon the information provided to us via Licensee Event Reports and followup letters which have been sent to us. Our records do not indicate that you have experienced any loss of offsite power events either completely or partially.

Please review your experiences and, if any ere identified, then report them in answer to this letter and furnish the related information as included in the enclosure.

Please provide your response for the Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit No.1 within 30 days of the receipt of this letter.

Sincerely, Robert W. Reid, Chief Operating Reactors Branch #4 Division of Licensing
