1 DUKE POWER COMPANY OCONEE NUCLEAR STATION RESPONSE TO IE BULLETIN 80-3 In accordance with Item 1 of the subject bulletin, visual examinations of charcoal filter replacement cells were examined at Oconee.

Inasmuch as the replacement cells are of similar design to those installed and since the examinations required by ANSI N510-1975, Section 5 were carried out as a part of the periodic filter testing, it was determined that risking damage to installed cells and/or associated equipment was not warranted.

The cells used at Oconee are of a design which utilizes spot welding versus riveting and is therefore not considered to be susceptible to the type of degradation observed at Sequoyah. Normal visual examinations carried out as part of the periodic filter testing would have and will continue to identify any such problems in the Oconee filter systems.

The following is a tabulation of the systems and filter cells in use at Oconee:
