NARRATIVE

REPORT Ceorgia Power Company Plant E. I. Hatch Baxley, Georgia 31513 Reportable Occurrence Report No. 50-366/1980-017.

While doing an instrument check, the "B" Drywell H2 - 02 Analyzer Recorder was found reading low.

In investigating the low recorder reading, it was discovered that the vacuum pump for the "B" analyzer was not working.

Therefore, the "B" analyzer was declared inoperable. However the "A" analyzer was operable.

The reactor was at steady state operation. The operation of the plant was not affected. There were no effects upon public health and safety due to this event. The failure of the analyzers is a repetitive event as last reported on Reportable Occurrence Report No. 50-366/1979-104.

The cause of this occurrence has been attributed to diaphragm failure in the vacuum pump of the "B" analyzer.

The diaphragms were replaced and the analyzer was calibrated and placed into service. Unit II is the only unit that utilizes this type of analyzer, Comsip Delphi Model K-4.

The instrument failure review did not indicate that there are any generic problems with these diaphragms. The past failures were due to hydrogen cell failures.
