WPPSS NUCLEAR PROJECTS 3 AND 5 APPLICATION OF ASME CODE CASE N-242, MATERIALS CERTIFICATION This letter is submitted on behalf of Washington Public Power Supply System to request the concurrence of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to use the following ASME Section III Code Case on WPPSS Nuclear Projects 3 and 5:
Code Case N-242 Entitled " Materials Certification" Colt Industries, our emergency diesel generator supplier, has requested application of ASME Code Case N-242 to metallic materials being used in the fabrication of the diesel generator units for WNP-3/5. The Supply System has reviewed this request and concurs with the application of the Code Case.
Al' hough not currently listed in Regulatory Guides 1.84 and 1.85 as an E.> ptable code case, the subject ruling has been prepared and issued to res lve apparent conflicts in earlier interpretations by ASME relating specifically to certification of code materials. Therefore, we request that this code case be invoked on WPPSS Units 3 and 5 for those procure-ments involving ASME materials and components.
