SUBJECT:

USE OF NAVAL SURFACE WEAPONS CENTER FOR STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING REVIEW FOR MIDLAND PLANT The NRC staff has enlisted the support of the Naval Surface Weapons Center (NSWC) to assist our Structural Engineering Branch with their review of the application for operating licenses for Midland Plant, Units 1 & 2.

Accordingly, we request that NSWC receive copies of all future correspondence related to Midland structural engineering matters, including soil related inter-faces, remedial actions and related quality assurance aspects.

This request includes all FSAR revisions after those which were forwarded NSWC as a result of a previous telephone request to Mr. J. Zabritski of your organization.

Further requests for transmittal of specified documents will be made in the future relative to a structural design audit and an independent confirmatory analysis of selected Midland structures to be performed by NSWC.

By copy of this letter, we are also requesting our Office of Inspection and Enforcement, Region III, to include NSWC for distribution of related future I&E initiated documents.
