Enclosed-is Certificate of Compliance No. 6400, Revision No. 8, for the Model No. 6400 shipping package. This Certificate of Compliance supersedes, in its entirety, certificate of Compliance No. 6400, Revision No. 7, dated July 12,1979.
Changes made to the enclosed certificate are indicated by vertical lines in the margin.
Those on attached list have been registered as users of this package under the general license provisions of 10 CFR 571.12(b) or 49 CFR 5173.393a.
Those on attached list should make the proper distribution within their-organizations for use of this package under the general license.
This approval constitutes authority to use this packag
' the shipment of radioactive material and for the package to be shippu in accordance with the provisions of 49 CFR 5173.393a.
The expiration date of Certificate of Compliance No. 6400 has been extended until September 1,1980. This expiration date will not be extended further j
until a consolidated application has been submitted for the package.
In addition, each registered user of the package should provide the following information:

The number of Model No. 6400 packagings owned by the user and the serial number of each.

The serial' number of any other Model No. 6400 packagings which the user has' delivered to a carrier for shipment since February 28, 1978, and the name and address of the owner of each.
3.
The results of a physical inspection of each Model No. 6400 packaging owned by the user to determine whether:

The packaging conforms in all respects to'the drawings referenced in Certificate of Compliance No. 6400, Revision 8.

The packaging has been significantly damaged or its condition has deteriorated in a manner which could effect its ability to meet the requirements of 10 CFR Part 71.

In performing this inspection, particular attention should be given to dimensions, tolarances, materials of construction, seals, sealing surfaces, door hinges, insulation, bolts, threads, and other items important to the safety of the package.
The information requested in Items 1, 2 and 3, above, should be submitted before April 30, 1980, to the Transportation Certification Branch, U.S.
Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Washington, DC, 20555.
Note that any packagings found to be out of conformance (Item 3, above) should not be used to transport radioactive,terial.
