Dear Mr. Eng;1 ken:
The Sadramento Municipal Utility District informed Mr. H. Canter of NRC this date of Reportable Occurrence 80-15 as defined by Regulatory Guide 1.16, Section C.2.a(3).
Today during fuel assembly 1C47 visual inspection, a defective fuel rod was discovered between assembly grid locations 5 and 6.
The fuel assembly is located in the spent fuel pool and is considered to be safe from a radio-logical standpoint. The cause of the failure is being investigated.
A detailed report will follow within fourteen (14) days.
