Docket No. 50-247 Mr. William J. Cahill, Jr.'

Vice Presicent Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc.

4 Irving Place New York, New York 10003

Dear Mr. Cahill:

By letter dated March 28, 1977, we requested that you review the alam and control circuitry for the diesel generators at Indian Point Unit flo. 2, and provide us with infomation concerning possible nonalarmed conditions whicn might render the diesel generators in-capable of autcmatic start. We also requested that you propose modifications that would corCect any nonalamed disabling conditions that were identified as a result of your review. By letter dated May 19, 1977 you submitted the results of your review.

In your submittal you proposed to install three alams (one for each diesel) on the annunciator panel. Each alarm would energize if the diesel stop solenoid has been activated by that diesel s lock-out relay.

In response to our letter of August 30, 1978, your letter dated September 29, 1978 indicated that (1) the annunciator will remain in alarm until all the abnomal conditions have been corrected and (2) the annunciator will alam when the diesel control switch is not in the automatic position.

This is to advise you that we have reviewed your submittals and on the b ais of our review conclude that the proposed modifications are acceptable and the alarm and control circuitry for the diesel generators are adequate and should preclude occurrence of any non-alamed conditions that could prevent automatic start of the diesel generators.

Sincerely, JWD-A. Schwencer, Chief Operating Reactors Branch fl Division of Operating Reactors 7901040309 l
