Docket Nos'.

Mr. L. O. Mayer, Manager Nuclear Support Services Northern States Power Company 414 Nicollet Mall, 8th Floor Minneapolis, Minnesota 55401

Dear Mr. Mayer:

On June 19 and July 16, 1979 you responded to our May 25, 1979 request for information regarding possible cracking in the auxiliary feedwater lines at the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant Unit Nos. I and 2.

In your responses you provided the information requested with the exception that the Unit No. 2 inspection would not be completed until the January 1980 refueling shutdown.

We have completed our review of Unit No.1 and have verified through IE Headquarters that you have performed the inspection required by Bulletin 79-13.

We find the non-destructive and visual inspections performed and the inherent toughness of the piping materials adequate to ensure that the feedwater piping integrity will be maintained.

No further action on this matter is required for Unit No.1 at this time. We will complete the review on Unit No. 2 when the inspection is completed.

Our related Safety Evaluation is enclosed.
