Subject:

Possible Malfunction of NAMCO EA180 Limit Switches at Elevated Temperatures

Dear Sir:

We have reviewed NRC IE Bulletin No. 79-28 entitled "Possible Malfunction of NAMCO EA180 Limit Switches at Elevated Temperature", and offer the following:

1.

At present we have only one safety related valve installed.

That valve does not use NAMCO EA180 limit switch.

2.

We will examine other safety related valves at site.

If any valves are fottnd with NAMCO EA180 limit switches with date stamp between 02-79 and 08-79, we will have those switches modified in accordance with the NRC IE Bulletin 79-28.

3.

For future shipments we are asking vendors for compliance with the above Eulletin.

4.

We have identified two items using these switches.

a)

Velan Valve Corporation (UE&C P.O. 248-37) will supply EA180 switches on one valve. When contacted, they indicated that they were familiar with Bulletin No. 79-28 and that required corrective action had already been taken.

CVI Corporation (UE&C P.O.

23611) will supply the Containment Structure Recirculation Filter Fans which uses NAMCO EA180 switches on the dampers.

The vendor advises that the switches have not yet been ordered from NAMCO and therefore no problem exists.

In accordance with the above, we feel that Seabrook is already in complete compliance with the recommendations cf Bulletin 79-28.

If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
