Dear Mr. Stolz:

Clinton Power Station Units 1 & 2 Docket Nos. 50-461 and 50-462 Construction Permits No. CPPR-137 & CPPR-138 Illinois Power Company intends to make use of AS'IE Code Cases N-237 and N-241, approved July 9, 1979, to exempt certain piping subject to the requirements of the ASME Code from hydrostatic testing.

We kindly request NRC's approval for use of ASME Code Cases N-237 and N-241 at the Clinton Power Station for the following intended appli-ca tions :

N-237 - Containment spray portion of the Residual Heat Removal (RHR) system beyond the last isolation valve.

N-241 - Safety relief valve discharge piping to the suppression pool and terminations (e.g., quenchers), including the submerged portions of the main steam, HPCS, LPCS, RHR, and RCIC systems.

Please advise us as soon as possible if you have any questions on our request to use these code cases or its intended applications. We would certainly appreciate an early NRC approval of these code r.ases for the Clinton Power Station.
