INTEGRATED CONTROL SYSTEM RELIABILITY ANALYSIS 1
As part of the long-tem portion of the Commission Orders of May,1979, each of the B&W operating plants was directed to perform a failure modes and effects analysis of the integrated control system (ICS), B&W performed this analysis for each licensee.

B&W has completed the analysis and forwarded ten copies of their repcrt,
" Integrated Control System Reliability Analysis - BAW1564 - August 1979,"
via a letter from J. H. Taylor (B&W) to D. F. Ross,(NRC) dated August 17, 1979.
3.
The organization who will perfom the review of this document has not been determined yet; however, I am making distribution of the ten copies we have received as indicated below.
I have requested that 50 additional copies be reproduced for further distribution.

Integrated Control System Reliability Analysis Gentlemen:
Transmitted herewith are ten copies of the Integrated Control System (ICS) Reliability Analysis, BAN-1564.
B5W performed this analysis at the request of the NRC, cased on concerns steming from the TMI-2 incident. Although the ICS perfot ned exactly as designed during the TMI-2 incident, it was brought under scrutiny since it was both the control system for Auxiliary Feedwater and one of the major differences
. between B5W and other FWR designs. 'Ihis analysis supports B5W's previous position - the ICS is a reliable control system that promotes NSS availability by maintaining the plant on line during normal and upset conditions, providing runbacks, and minimi:ing reactor trips.
