Dear Sir:
Our response dated December 31, 1979 to NRC Staff Question 6 of December 29, 1979 regarding LER 79-15 indicated that the range of transverse shear stress in walls due to interstory displacement would be confirmed to be 1 psi to 3 psi (+1 psi). The results of that confimation for Auxiliary Building walls were reported in my letter dated January 31, 1980.
All of the walls in the Control-Auxiliary-Fuel Building Complex have now been reviewed and excepting those wall panels listed on the attached Tables 6-1, 6-2 and 6-3, =aximum transverse shear stresses due to interstory displacements are below 4 psi, with the majority being in the range of 0.5 psi to 2.0 psi.
Evaluations of such shear stresses for walls not modeled in STARDYNE are being finalized. Results of these evaluations will be reported on February 15, 1980, when we report on ;he combined interface shear stresses for these walls. That submittal will also report the combined interface shear stresses for the wall panels referenced in Tables 6-1, 6-2 and 6-3.
Sincerely,
/s/ D. J. Broehl 7)
