Dear Mr. Peoples:

SUBJECT:

REQUEST FOR IflFORMATION CONCERMING THE STAFF'S DEVELOPMENT OF GENERIC GUIDELINES FOR BWR SACRIFICIAL SHIELD COMPARTMENTS, LA SALLE COUNTY STATION, UNITS 1 & 2 In a telecon held on December 6,1979, with Mr. L. DelGeorge of your staff, we indicated that a program has been recently instituted to develop generic guidelines for all boiling water reactor sacrificial shield compartments and that we require certain detailed information on the reactor cavity.

To aid in obtaining realistic infomation on actual plant designs, we are requesting this type of information from several applicants including La Salle. Analysis of the infomation will be performed by our contract personnel at the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory.

The requested information should be in the form of drawings.

The drawings should be in sufficient detail to show physical geometry, flow paths, and relative location for the following components:

(1) Reactor vessel nozzel and piping, (2) Reactor vessel support; (3)

Instrumentation tubes (e.g., neutron detectors);

(4) Shielding devices (e.g., shield blocks, plugs, shield ring or tank);

(5) Variations in reactor vessel diameters; 8002100 'l }

)
