Dear Mr. Keppler:
On January 16, 1980, Mr. C.E. Chmielewski of Public Service Company of Indiana, Inc. (PSI) telephoned your of fice to notify you of a potentially reportable incident as required by 10CFR50.55(e) . The following report resolves that item and constitutes a final report under the Regulation.
In their November 15, 19 79 letter (NS-TMA-2162) to your Mr. Stello, Westing-house identified possible non-conservative rod drop analyses. In a second letter (NS-TMA-2167, dated November 28, 1979), Wes tinghouse proposed interim solutions to this problem for currently operating plants and cocmitted to review long term solutions and make recommendations to be included as part of a topical report to be submitted to the NRC in mid-1980.
PSI will evaluate this topical report af ter it is' submitted to the NRC and implement the appropriate long term solutions. Should it occur that Wes tinghouse does not propose long term solutions prior to Marble Hill Station operation, PSI will incorporate, as appropriate, the interim changes outlined in Westinghouse letter NS-TMA-2167 in our station operating procedures and trip ' set points and/
or adhere to future applicable recoc=endations.
