Dear Mr. Parr:

The above referenced letters transmitted the reports of WPPSS' Engineer, Ebasco Services, Incorporated, which provided analysis of the groundwater drainage system and all pertinent data available. Reference (1) also pro-vided the groundwater drainage system final design and other related infonnation bearing on system performance.

Tne attached report of our Engineer provides an update of the groundwater data provided by references (1), (2) and (3), an analysis of that data, and increased piezometer coverage of the excavation perimeter. Quanti-tative evaluation of the adequacy of the groundwater drainage system is premature at this time due to incomplete data.

Installation of the WNP-3/5 groundwater drainage system is now complete.

Groundwater flow measurements will provide usable data when the system is sealed from surface water infiltration by concrete placement.

Although no quantitative conclusions can be drawn at this time regarding the adequacy of the system design, it is apparent the parameters used in developing ~the final design, as discussed in the PSAR, are conserva-tive and the system will function as required.

WPPSS' next supplementary report on groundwater drainage system parameters will include data from 16 additional WNP-5 piezometers Should you desire further information during the interim period, please centact our Mr. R. C. Douglas.

Very truly yours, oO W D. L. RENBERGER Assistant Director S;c.cccti;  :-d Technology DLR: RCD:ds cc: D. Smithpeter (BPA)
