$GM cEcEL9ER t 8 M 00cket No. 50-348 Mr. Alan R. Barton Senior Vice President Alabana Power Corpany Post Office Box 2641 Birmingham, Alabama 35291 Cear Mr. Barton:

SUBJECT:

INADVERTENT SAFETY INJECTION DURING C00LCOWN The Division of Operating Reactors has completed a generic bounding review on this subject and concludes that no further licensing action is necessary at this time since it is likely that a facility could withstand more than fifty inadvertent ECCS actuations. We have concluded, however, that it would be prudent, should a facility experience nore than twenty-five such injections, for you to consider a plant specific analysis for that facility which would identify mere precisely the additional number of actuations that can be safely accariodated at that facility.

A copy of cur Safety Evaluation Report is enclosed.

Sincerely, yf-z: ngo.. iY A. Schwencer, Chief Operating Reactors Branch fl Division of Operating Reactors
