Docket No. 70-1257 AUG 151979 Exxon Nuclear Company, Inc.
ATTU: Dr. Roy Nilson, Manager Licensing Research and Technology Center 2955 George Washington Way Richland, Washington 99352 Daar Dr. Nilson:
In response to your July 2, 1979 letter which requested additional information on our natural phenomena review of your mixed oxide facility, we are providing the following:
1.
We have not received the wind loading structural analysis from Texas Tech. When their report is finalized we will send you a copy.
2.
The comments of Chou and Coats were considered in the final version of the seismic structural analysis.
3.
We have concluded from the information provided on the hydrology characterization of your site that a structural analysis of the facility to withstand flooding is not warranted.
It is our understanding that there would be a minimum of two weeks, and more likely one month, warning of the severe flooding, thus providing time for removing or protecting material at risk. A copy of the hydrology report which is reference 2 was sent to Warren Nechodom on July 11, 1979.
4.
Copies of references 1 and 4 are enclosed. A copy of reference 5 was sent to Warren Nechodom on July 9, 1979.
5.
As we have discussed in the past, it is hoped our natural phenomena studies will provide a rationale leading to acceptable natural phenomena recurrence interval design bases. At present we have not developed sufficient information to proceed in this area.
