Dear Mr. Denton:
AUXILIARY FEEDWATER SYSTEM RELIABILITY NORTH ANNA UNIT NO. 2 By letters dated November 2, 1978 (Serial No. 825/092879) and January 15, 1980 (Serial No. 016), we responded to NRC letters dated September 28, 1979 and December 14, 1979, concerning requirements for the auxiliary feedwater system for North Anna Unit 1.
Your September 28, 1979 letter included the results of an NRC review of the reliability of the Unit 1 auxiliary feedwater system. Our responses described the system and procedural changes which were being nade in response to the staff recommendations.
As noted in our November 2 response, the Staff's reliability study applies to the design of the auxiliary feedwater systems' of both Units 1 and 2.
Accordingly, the actions we are taking in response to the Staf f's recommendations will be perfomed on both units.
In addition, endurance testing of the Unit 2 auxiliary feedwater pumps will be performed in accordance with the Staff's requirements, as outlined in your December 14, 1979 letter. The turbine driven pump will be tested with the unit at a ninimum of 25% power.
Also requested by the Staff's September 28, 1979 letter was information concerning the basis for AFW System Flow Requirements.
This information, which is applicable to both units, is being assembled by Westinghouse Electric Corporation and Stone & Webster Engineering Corporation. We now anticipate we will be able to submit this infomation by June 1980.
Very truly yours, h
. YYf C. M. Stallings Vice President-Power Supply and Production Operations
