0AK RIDGE NATIONAL LABORATORY MONTHLY REPORT TO THE DIVISION OF SITE SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS December 1979 A. Status of Environmental Reviews Allens Creek - J. B. Cannon, Prcject Manager The staff has continued working on the alternative site analysis for publication as a supplement.

San Onofre Units 2 and 3 - R. M. Rush, Project Manager The staff continues on a low level analysis on thermal impacts.

Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station - N. E. Hinkle, Project Manager No activity in December.

Erie Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2 - N. E. Hinkle, Project Manager The applicant has responded +.o requests for updated power demand and forecasts for their system as in input to the staff's need to provide an updating statement ir. Sec; ion 8 (Need for Power). Technical editing of the revisions to the draft FES was initiated. Still awaiting NRC staff changes to the radiological and safety sections.

Douglas Point Nuclear Generating Station Units 1 and 2 - N. E. Hinkle Suzanne Keblusek, Don Sells and Charles Barth visited ORNL on December 7 for a discussion of NRC staff coments on the alternative site draft testimony. Corrections, deletions, and proposed additions were agreed upon during these discussions and an estimated completion date of the end of December for the final draft was proposed. Most of the changes were incorporated and the text was being retyped at the end of the month.

A re-draft of the conclusion and preparation of a figure showing the location of the sites was expected to be completed in early January.

A mid-January delivery of the final draft to NRC was anticipated.

B. Support Group Activities Environmental Fluid Dynamics Group PLUME Model User's Manual - J. B. Cannon No activity this month.

NEP Groundwater Flow - D. W. Lee Final preparations for publishing the ORNL/TM memo describing groundwater flow at the New England Power Plant are being made.

1.2 Analytical Support Work ORFAD - Cooling Tower Fog and Drift Program - M. E. Laverne, H. A. Mclain, and E. C. Long Typing of revised draft of the ORNL/TM memo describing the present ORFAD program is continuing.

ORFAD - Review of the Plume Behavior Models - J. E. Molyneux No activity this month.

Statistical Continum Model of Thermal Discharge - J. E. Molyneux, A. J. Witten and E. C. Long Work continued on the paper describing the instantaneous release of a pollutant from a point source into the atmosphere. Plots describing the probability of a pollutant concentration downwind of a smokestack have been generated.

Computer Program Cataloging - E. C. Long The draft of the CF memo describing LIST, a computer program for listing program outputs on CRT terminals and producing copies on hard copy units has been completed.

1.4 Int 6ke Structures Evaluation Study Testified at the EPA Hudson River hearings.

D. Budget Project costs are reported in the attached tables.

E. Overdue Action of SSEA Regarding Laboratory Requests None.
