,o SEP 1 S 1979 SGPL:RBM 70-820 United Nuclear Corporation Recovery Systems ATTN:

Mr. C. E. Bowers Plant Manager Wood River Junction, Rhode Island 02894 Gentlemen:

This is in response to your September 10, 1979 letter in which you requested an extension of the annual firearms requalification schedule from September to October for certain individuals.

We have determined that your proposal to qualify all incumbent guards, including those scheduled for September 1979, during October 1979 is in accordance with your new Training and Qualifications Plan.

This proposal does not decrease the effectiveness of your physical security plan and is therefore acceptable.

As discussed in a telephone conversation on September 12, 1979, between your Richard Gigliotti and Messers. Rentschler and Manili of the NRC, regarding annual requalifications, including physical examinations, it has been determined that a medical examination is required within the preceding 30 days to deter-mine that there are no medical contraindications to participation in the physical fitness examination of any individual.

Sincerely,

'd u
