APPLICATION FOR RENEWAL OF MATERIALS LICENSE SNM-1265 Gentlemen:

General Electric Company (the applicant) hereby applies for re-newal of Materials License SNM-1265, Docket 70-1308, for a period of twenty years in accordance with the requirements of Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations, Chapter 1, Part 30, " Rules of General Applicability to Licensing of By-product Materials;" Part 40

" Licensing of Source Material;" and Part 70, "Special Nuclear Material." This application is filed in accordance with the re-quirements of Part 70.33(b), with regard to timely filing.

The applicant filed in October 1978 to amend the conditions of the then existing Materials License SNM-1265, and to then cancel Materials License SNM-1281. The proposed amendment will incorporate conditions of both License SNM-1265 and License SNM-1281 in Chapter 10, Operating specifications of NED0-21326.

Action by USNRC on the proposed amendment is pending. This application for renewal of SNM-1265 is based on the amended license, but is also applicable to the unamended license if the amendment should be delayed or denied.

The subject license authorizes the applicant to receive, possess, store, and transfer irradiated fuel received from light water reactors at its Morris Operation fuel storage plant near Morris, Illinois.- Jhe 790813004b

, characteristics of the nuclear fuel to be stored, the conduct of activities at Morris Operation, the qualifications and experience required for leading staff positions, summaries of the applicant's fuel storage experience, and other pertinent information are included in the various documents listed in Attachment A.

The documents listed in Attachment A, including those submitted herewith and those previously submitted, form a part of this application and are incorporated herein by this reference.

The applicant is a corporation under the laws of the State of New York, with its principal place of business at Schenectady, New York.

The names of the applicant's principal officers, their addresses and citizenship are provided in Attachment B.

A fee of $32,000 is enclosed in accordance with 10 CFR 170.31, Category 1.H.
