Following installation of new control rods at Yankee-Rowe during 1972, a rigorous control rod test program was specified. '

Control rod drop testini is required to be performed every

14 weeks with the reactor shutdown.

Reliabic. performance of the new Yankee-Rowe control rods has been v'erified by eight ccus ca m eo ouc curing reactor shutdown. We expect Yankee to submi,t a' tech spec change to extend the surveillance

In view of the above the temporary extension of the 12-week surveillance interval by four weeks. does not involva nn un-reviewed safety question, 'since it will not increase the probabi '

lity or consequence of an accident previously analyzed, nor decrease any safety margin.
