Gentlemen:

On November 14, 1979 Mr. E. D. Groover, QA Site Supervisor at Plant Vogtle, reported to your Mr. Tom Conlon that a potential reportable item under 10CFR50.55e existed at Plant Vogtle concerning dewatering and erosion of backfill.

Since our interim letter of Decembs'r 10, 1979, log GM-532, Georgia Power Company has transmitted four letters. to the NRC which provided the current status of our program. On January 9, l'980 Georgia Power Company personnel and representatives met with NRC I&E (Region and Headquarters) and NRR persnnnel in NRR's Washington offices to discuss this problem and the corrective action being taken. The information presented in this meeting was transmitted by our letter dated January 8,1960, log GM-544.

As a result of the meeting in Washington, my January 10, 1980 letter, log GM-546, to you addresses any concerns discussed in the meeting and provides the current status.

At this time, Georgia Power Company is still unable to establish a definite completion date for the final report. An additional update and a date for the final report will be provided by February 15, 1980.
