Subject:

Arkansas Nuclear One - Unit 2 Docket No. 50-368 License No. NPF-6 Boron Dilution Analysis (File: 2-1510)

Gentlemen:

The following is provided in response to your October 5, 1979 letter concerning possible boron dilution events:

1) Combustion Engineering has recently completed analyses for Arkansas Nuclear One - Unit 2 which identify and evaluate the potential for possible boron dilution events to lead to inadvertant reactor criticality. The systems included in these analyses are listed in Attach-ment 1. No postulated dilution scenario has been iden-tified which continues until reactor criticality. Suf-ficient design provisions, administrative controls and corrective actions are available to ensure that the operator can detect and terminate boron dilution events before the shutdown margin is lost.
2) We are in the process of reviewing procedural changes provided by Combustion Engineering as part of the above mentioned analyses. We will provide you with copies of any amended procedures as they become effective. We expect to complete our review of the applicable proce-dures by March 1, 1980.

Very truly yours,

.bwe. r4 David C. Trimble Manager, Licensing 253 DCT:M0W:skm veveen v. cote souTs uritiTies sysTev 8@ 226
